FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FREE MOBILE SHOWER SERVICE COMING TO SERVE CHARLOTTEANS MOVING THROUGH HOMELESSNESS
Local nonprofit kicks off fundraiser to bring mission to Queen City streets
CHARLOTTE, NC, October 26—Did you know that there are nearly 1,700 humans in Mecklenburg County that are homeless? Showers are very limited and often, there are many barriers which prevent people from accessing services (including showers) such as money and transportation. Project Outpour, a 501(c)3 nonprofit based in Charlotte, is on a mission to change that, and we need Charlotte’s help!
In September, we paid a deposit on a custom shower trailer being built for us. Today, we launched our fundraising campaign to raise $20,000. All money raised will go toward the balance due on the shower trailer and will help cover operational expenses, with the goal of hitting the streets by February 1, 2019.
We’re hard at work to meet our deadline. We’ve identified partner sites and are collaborating with the Charlotte Water, Mecklenburg County Health and Human Services and nonprofit agencies, including Urban Ministry Center, to best serve those moving through homelessness. While our guests are waiting to shower, we will be able to build relationships and connect them with other agencies, helping them on path to greater self-sufficiency, including housing. How great would it be if their next shower could be in their very own home?
Quite literally, meeting our neighbors where they are to get them to where they need to be just makes sense. They occupy the same space we do, and our goal is that they leave feeling better than when they did upon arrival. Our vision is to be a catalyst for change in the lives of our neighbors, one shower at a time. Won’t you join us in our mission?
Project Outpour is actively seeking funding opportunities and donations through our Indiegogo campaign.
Laureen Jenkins, founder + CEO of Project Outpour, is available for interviews about the mission and what’s currently being done to bring this service to the QC. You can reach her at 704-290-3050 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
About Project Outpour
Founded in 2018, Project Outpour uses mobile showers to promote holistic health and dignity to persons moving through homelessness. They hit the streets meeting neighbors, quite literally, where they are providing them the opportunity to shower in a safe, clean and private environment. The shower trailer has two private bathrooms. Each guest is provided with all the supplies he or she needs to enhance their personal hygiene. Project Outpour serves as a point of connection for those that don’t typically seek out services and will work alongside other homeless service agencies to help get our neighbors on a path to greater self-sufficiency.
