Thanks to our amazing community support, showers are offered to our guests at no cost. All items needed to shower are provided, including toiletries, new shirts, socks, and underwear for guests to keep. We also have fresh towels and washcloths for guests to borrow.

Services may not be available on government holidays when libraries are closed, including: Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Good Friday, Juneteenth, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and more. If we need to be closed, we will post it on our Facebook @projectoutpourclt & Instagram @projectoutpourclt so please check there before visiting on a federal holiday.

Our Frequently Asked Questions

Will I be sharing the bathroom or shower with anyone else?

No, you will have your own bathroom with a sink, mirror, shower, toilet, and hooks. The door locks behind you. The only time we reserve the right to unlock the door from the outside is if we knock on the door and you don’t respond to us. We then assume there’s an emergency and will enter the bathroom.

How long do I have to take a shower?

Each guest is given 20 minutes from the time they enter the bathroom. We will knock on the door at 15 minutes to let you know you have 5 minutes left.

Do I have to provide my personal information to take a shower?

We ask all first-time guests to sign a few documents that help protect you and us, and to ensure expectations are clear for everyone.

Is the bathroom clean?

Absolutely! We clean our bathrooms between each use with a hospital-grade disinfectant to prevent the spread of disease and ensure a dignified experience for the next guest. We take special precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

How much does it cost?

Our showers and hygiene supplies are free thanks to the many generous people and companies who donate to our mission.

Will I be hot or cold in the bathroom?

No, our shower trailer is climate controlled with AC for the warmer months and heat for the cooler months.

Can I reserve my shower or do I have to wait?

Showers are on a first-come, first-serve basis. we do not take “reservations” or “hold” anyone’s place; we simply sign you up when you arrive. If you’ve signed up and you’re not around when it’s your turn, we will skip over your name and go to the next guest. When you return, we’ll get you in the next available bathroom.

What do you provide?

We provide essential toiletry items. We have soap, shampoo, conditioner, tampons, lotion, razors and shaving cream, lip balm, deodorant, tissues, underwear, socks, foot powder, shower caps, and more. We provide you with a towel and washcloth, but we do need those back when you’re finished. At this time, we do not provide shower shoes as we’re very confident in the cleanliness of our showers.

What if I need food, money, bus passes or a ride? Do you provide those?

The way we’ve chosen to help you is by providing you the opportunity to shower and have a bathroom to yourself. On occasion, we may team up with another to provide snacks or a meal. We do not provide bus passes, rides, or money.

How do I get to you?

We try our very best to strategically set up in locations that are close to large gatherings or encampments of persons who are unhoused. Many of our guests walk or ride a bike to get to us. We have some that are able to take the bus or light rail.

Where do you set up?

We set up at various places around the city. We try to team up with organizations that are serving our unhoused friends to increase the help we can provide. We coordinate with day service centers, churches, laundromats, and soup kitchens.

How do you select your partner sites?

Our partner sites are selected based on their acceptance of our mission and those we serve, their location, and their setup. To become a partner site, we need at least 4 parking spaces, an approved water hook-up, an approved location to drain our gray and black water tanks, and a permit from Charlotte Water. If you are interested in becoming a partner site, contact us.

What’s needed to become a partner site?

There are 3 main requirements for those interested in becoming a partner site. We need 40×10 feet of space, a freshwater connection to attach a garden hose from our partner site’s water source which is then heated by propane, and an on-demand water heater. We need a place to drain our gray and black water tanks. Charlotte Water helps us identify the appropriate place to dump our water and if there’s not an acceptable drain on-site, our good friends at e.r. plumbing services provide their services.

Do you need volunteers?

Yes! We need lots of hands and smiles. If you’re interested in helping, please email hello@projectoutpour.org.
