well we guess it’s safe to say that 2020 has shaped up to be an interesting year, to say the least! due to covid-19, we had to make the difficult decision to cease operations for the safety of our team, our team’s family members, volunteers and guests. we certainly weren’t expecting this pandemic to progress as it has (not alone here, right?!) but we are still as committed as ever to our mission. read on to learn about what we’ve been up to and where we see the rest of 2020 taking us.
interested in serving on our board of directors?
we are looking for someone with development and fundraising experience to join our board of directors. if that’s you or you know someone who may be interested, please email our chief dignity officer, laureen, at firstname.lastname@example.org. we’d love to hear from you!
shower service is starting up again…finally!
we are thrilled to announce our new partnership with the charlotte rescue mission! syl will be on site providing showers to men, indefinitely. they’re not able to house them as they once did due to covid-19 and social distancing protocols, and with that comes a shortage of bathroom and shower access. our parternship will allow the men enrolled in the mission’s programs greater access to showers and bathrooms all while helping to maintain proper social distancing. our shower trailer will run a few hours every day of the week, and will be managed by the men themselves. we will have extra cleaning measures in place that will include fogging the bathrooms between each use to prevent the spread of covid-19 and other viruses. stay tuned for more info on this awesome collaboration!
we have some unique needs
we have a few needs that we’re hoping someone can help us with! read below and if you can help, please send us an email at email@example.com.
we’d love to know about any companies that offer matching gift programs to their employees. if you work for a company that has such a program, put us in touch! we’d love to reach out to them and inquire about how our mission can be supported.
we currently pay $140 per month for storage. while we don’t pay nearly as much as we should, we desire to be the best stewards of every dollar given to us so we’d love to find another storage option that is cheaper or better yet, free! if you have any connections with storage facilities or your employer has empty space they’d consider donating to our mission, please let us know.
lastly, if you have any connections with clothing manufacturers, please let us know. many times their “not-so-perfect” product ends up in the trash yet it’s completely wearable/functional. we need a constant supply of things like underwear, socks, shorts, (sweat)shirts and (sweat)pants, and we’ll gladly take such items off the hands of anyone who’s currently throwing those items away.
the jimmy CORE foundation was founded in memory of a man named jimmy who passed away at the age of 26. his life’s mission was to serve others and he took special care of the homeless community. their mission supports local nonprofits serving our homeless neighbors, like us. if you look closely at the photo, you’ll see their logo, circled in yellow, on our shower trailer. the foundation’s logo is on all sides of syl and on our truck, rambo. we love knowing a small piece of jimmy’s memory lives on through our mission and because of them, we were able to pay off our truck in full last year!
we also have to give a huge thank you to atlantic vehicle wraps; we have them to thank for our beautifully wrapped logo on syl and rambo. check out how amazing syl looks! if you have any custom vehicle wrapping needs, please consider giving them your business. they’re a breeze to work with and they love giving back to the local community!
